The museum tells the story of the life and work of the Lessinia communities, showing how they shaped a unique alpine landscape of stone districts between meadows and forests.
The Ethnographic Museum ‘Luxino’ in Bosco Chiesanuova documents the main aspects of daily life and the environment of Lessinia through the display of original objects, photos and scale models. It is regarded as an open book on the culture, traditions and activities of the people of this area.
The Museum's sections deal with prehistory, mountain pasture, haymaking, milk processing, charcoal, ice and lime production, carpentry, spinning, weaving and popular religiosity.
The building that houses the Museum was built between 1850 and 1852 to serve as the Town Hall and Primary School.
Two detached sections of a thematic nature are also an integral part of the Museum: the Giassàra del Grietz and the Baito della Coletta, a few kilometres from the centre of Bosco Chiesanuova.
Guided tours of the Luxino Museum and the external sections ‘Baito della Coletta’ and ‘Giassàra del Grietz’ are possible by prior arrangement by telephone at 0456780280.
Through the exhibition of objects and the installation of videos and photographs, the Museum tells the story of the life of the men and women who have inhabited and inhabited Lessinia and how they have transformed the environment, creating a unique landscape in the entire alpine area made up of districts, with characteristic stone architecture, surrounded by meadows, woods and pastures.
The primary objective that guided us in setting up the Museum was to construct an itinerary that, starting from prehistoric times, would arrive at the present day and show how men have lived in Lessinia.
The Giassàra del Grietz, located in the contrada of the same name, is about 4 km from the centre of Bosco Chiesanuova, on the road to San Giorgio. It is a cylindrical construction, partly buried, used in the past to store ice, which in winter was cut in the adjacent pond. In summer, the ice was collected and sold in various locations in the province.
The Baito della Coletta is an old building (1729) used in the past for milk processing. Particularly noteworthy inside are the barrel vault of the late logo and the original tools for butter and cheese production. Next to this building is another baito (hut) from the early 20th century, which has been renovated to become the site of the Museum's educational workshops.
